Do The Right Thing (3): Act It Right

Updated: Oct 26, 2021

Purposeful living is not limited to mastering the acts of thinking and speaking right. It also involves taking laborious step to apply what you know and believe . Acting right is about persistently doing right the right thing.

Be genuine to life by doing the right thing. Posterity will remember you well for it.

Be genuine to yourself by doing the right thing the right way. Prosperity will reward you well for it. The secret of genuine living is walking your talk.

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day. 2 Tim 4:7-8a

Think through your vision, goals and purpose and get them documented. Knowing the right thing to do is half way to doing it. Seek the face of God for right direction so that you can stop running around wasting time instead of fulfilling your life. Then after you might have gotten your thought and talk right, act it right.

All the wisdom in the Bible with all the secrets of success in this world will not work out for you if you don’t.

1. Do it

Thinking right will help you to be focussed and motivated. Talking right will help you to be sensitive, considerate and confident. But it is only by carrying out your well-thought and well-spoken plans that you can attract to yourself positive people and pleasant rewards. Faith without work is dead! Acts of Apostles is a powerful book in the Bible because it details the activities of early Christians. Your great knowledge and visions only earn recognition and fortunes when you permit it to go through the transforming miracle of labour. That is where the concept of “laboratory” originates. Every tangible object and material on earth (be it house, business or product) was once a mere idea until productive labour brought it into manifestation. Do you have a great idea and plan? Don’t just think and say it, do it!

2. Do the right thing

Nothing is as useless as trying to do right a wrong thing. Labouring on the wrong thing is a wasteful effort. Acting right is not right enough if you are not doing the right thing. No matter what you have invested (or will lose) in what is wrong, do the right thing. If the tree is not good, no matter how you try, the fruits can never be good (Matt 7: 18.)

3. Do it right

It is not every labour that is productive otherwise every labourer on the street would be a millionaire. Labouring in a wrong manner is as worthless as not labouring at all. If it is worth doing, it is worth doing thoughtfully, correctly, honestly and with integrity. a) Do it thoughtfully

Stop running around everything without checking out if you are doing the right thing. Take time as often as possible to check your direction and progress. If you are running in the wrong direction, speed and energy can not help. Make it your habit to often stop and think. A stitch in time saves nine. b) Do it correctly

Effective way to do a thing is to do it correctly. It is not enough to be right, it is necessary to be perceived to have done it right. Acting right involves making yourself understood. It involves dressing up right to fit occasion and portraying the right body language. It includes sounding sure and confident in your speech and listening for feedback from others. Good listening attends to others purposefully to understand them. It is about not interrupting others from completing their statements in order to fully understand them. Until you understand a question, how can you give the right answer? Until you know the need, how can you offer the right solution? Acting correctly is about taking time to think before answering. c) Do it honestly

Living with good conscience is a great accomplishment in life. Many great atrocities begin with a small lie, which gives birth to other lies. Speaking the truth precludes the need to cover up. Honesty is about saying what you mean and meaning what you say. Every little exaggeration of facts can destroy your integrity and make bad impression about you.

d) Do it with integrity

Integrity is about doing what you say you will do, the way you say you will do it at the period you say you will do it. How often many fame seekers slaughter their integrity on the altar of cheap success only to find out that an achievement without good name is vanity. Reaping other people off and getting something for nothing makes you a cheap rogue. Stop living at other people’s expense. It is a mere deception that you stand to gain by cheating others. Liars are the greatest losers. A cheat and a beggar merely rob themselves of their integrity and good legacy. A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches!

Act right

The miracle of labour yields to the right combination of thinking, talking and acting right.

The media is filled today with reports of disgraced world athletes and sportsmen who cheat their ways to stardom through illegal usage of Human Growth Hormone (HGH.) What a tragedy to watch them shamefully cry and plead for forgiveness as they are publicly stripped of their old titles and honour. Same incidence is daily witnessed in our social-political and business realms. The truth is no one can remain famous for long without first preserving his or her good name. To every man of integrity, finishing first is secondary to finishing well.

As exemplified in the life of Apostle Paul, acting right in life should be about fighting “a good fight” of finishing the race of life with integrity. Chose to be principled and persistent in the face of all challenge and opposition.

Good name is rather to be chosen than great riches. That is because honesty always has its own rewards.

You deserve the crown of righteousness after your race in life. Act right and keep the faith!

The time is always right to do what is right. Martin Luther King, Jr
